The Birthday Age Discount: Four Conditions To Read Before You Book

Almost every promotion in the karaoke business aims at the young. This one does the opposite: the older you are, the bigger the discount. Forty-five gets 45% off the room rate; seventy gets 70%.

It sounds simple, and precisely because it sounds simple, people read it more broadly than it works and get a surprise at the till. This article exists so nobody does.

Room 601 Elite, 45m² for 12 guests — a common size for a family birthday

Condition 1: the room rate only

A party bill has three separate parts: the room rate (the hourly charge for the room), set menus and food, and drinks.

The birthday discount touches only the first. Set menus are charged in full, extra food is charged in full, drinks are charged in full.

This is the most important condition and the one most often misread. "60% off" does not mean the bill drops to 40%.

Condition 2: the percentage equals the age

Not "up to", not a rounded tier. Whatever age the birthday guest turns is the percentage taken off.

And it follows the age of the birthday guest — the person whose birthday it is — not the age of whoever makes the booking. A son booking a seventieth birthday for his mother gets 70% off, not his own age.

Condition 3: it does not stack with the time-slot offer

The venue runs two discounts and both act on the same amount, the room rate:

1. The birthday age discount
A percentage equal to the birthday guest's age.

2. The time-slot offer
30% off the room rate from 12pm to 10pm, Sunday to Thursday.

You take one of the two, whichever is worth more. The rule fits in a line: compare the age with 30. Under 30, the time-slot offer wins; over 30, the birthday discount wins, and the gap widens with age.

Condition 4: applied before service charge and VAT

The discounted room rate is what gets multiplied by 1.155, where 1.155 covers the 5% service charge and 10% VAT.

That order works out better for you than the reverse. Discounting before tax means the tax is calculated on the reduced amount.

One worked example, start to finish

A birthday guest turning 45, a group of 12, in room 601 Elite (45m², 400,000đ per hour), on a four-hour booking.

Step 1 — room rate before the discount.
400,000đ × 4 hours = 1,600,000đ

Step 2 — take off 45%.
1,600,000đ × 45% = 720,000đ off, leaving 880,000đ

Step 3 — add service charge and VAT.
880,000đ × 1.155 = 1,016,400đ payable on the room

Step 4 — add the set menu and drinks you chose. Both are charged in full and are also multiplied by 1.155.

Put another way: that 45% saves a real 720,000đ on the room rate. That is the figure worth comparing, not the percentage.

What to ask when you call

Call 0915.03.1111 and give three things: how many guests, the date and time slot, and the birthday guest's age. That is enough for the venue to quote one all-inclusive figure with the discount already applied, instead of quoting a percentage.
