How Much Cheaper Is A Weeknight Than A Weekend — And When To Choose One
How much does the 30% offer for 12pm-10pm, Sunday to Thursday, actually save a party of 30? A Wednesday and a Saturday compared, and when a weeknight is the wrong choice.
The year-end budget has been approved at a fixed figure, but HR still gets to choose the date. The real question at this point is not "is there an offer" but "how much money is there actually between a Wednesday evening and a Saturday evening, for a company our size". This article works it out in figures rather than generalities.
How the 30% works — read it correctly to calculate correctly
Avatar takes 30% off the hourly room rate between 12pm and 10pm, Sunday to Thursday. Two points need to be clear before you start calculating:
- The discount applies only to the room rate, not to set menus or drinks — and those two make up most of the budget, so the final difference is much smaller than the headline 30% suggests.
- The window is 12pm to 10pm. If the party runs past 10pm, or starts after it, the hours outside the window are charged in full.
A worked example for 30 guests — room Luminary
Take Luminary (code 1A2, 30 guests, 70 m², 650,000đ/hour) for a four-hour party, using the formula Total = (room + food + drinks) × 1.155:
| Item | Saturday (standard hourly rate) | Wednesday within 12pm–10pm (30% off the room) |
|---|---|---|
| Room (650,000đ/hour × 4 hours) | 2,600,000đ | 1,820,000đ |
| Set menu (2 sets × 6,500,000đ) | 13,000,000đ | 13,000,000đ |
| Additional drinks | 800,000đ | 800,000đ |
| All-inclusive total (service charge and VAT included) | ≈18,900,000đ | ≈18,040,000đ |
| Per head | ≈630,000đ | ≈601,000đ |
The real difference is about 900,000đ across all 30 guests — not the 30% the offer's name suggests, because most of the budget sits in the set menu rather than the room. For a smaller group, say 15 guests in Astronaut (15 guests, 50 m², 450,000đ/hour), the absolute difference is smaller still, around 620,000đ for the evening, since at that size the room is an even smaller share of the total.
So why choose a weeknight — it is not only about the money
Looking at that table alone, saving nearly 900,000đ on a budget of almost 19 million is not a strong enough reason to move the date. The reason worth weighing is elsewhere: Friday and Saturday slots in year-end season go very quickly, especially for rooms of 30 and above. Choosing a weeknight is not only a small saving; it is what lets the company have the room it actually wants, rather than taking whatever is left at the last minute.
When NOT to choose a weeknight
The time-slot offer is not always the right call. Three cases where the weekend is worth the extra cost:
- An event that needs the full board or outside guests present. Midweek, many senior people and partners still have work commitments and cannot reliably be there before 6pm.
- Guests travelling in from other provinces or branches. A weekend is easier for travel and does not disrupt work at the branch.
- A party expected to run past 10pm. Most of the discount no longer applies then, while a weeknight is less convenient for guests who have work the next morning.
Outside those three, for a straightforward internal party, a weeknight remains sensible both on budget and on your chances of keeping the room you want. There is more on planning week by week across the year-end season in the company party packages, and the full hourly rates for every room are at the VIP room list.
A checklist before fixing the date
- Does the party genuinely require the full board or outside guests?
- Are there guests travelling from other provinces or branches?
- Is it likely to run past the 12pm–10pm window?
- Is the guest count in the range where weekend rooms go early (30 and above)?
- If none of the above apply, has a weeknight been fixed and the room held early?
The difference between a weeknight and a weekend is not the percentage on the advertising board — it is whether the company still gets to choose the room it wanted.
