Ms Hanh is choosing a room for her father's fifty-second birthday. The same week, Mr Duy is booking somewhere for his younger sister, who is turning 29. Both call Avatar Karaoke, both ask about the birthday offer — and the two families end up with very different amounts off, because the calculation follows neither the season nor the day of the week, but the age of the person celebrating.

The mechanism: your age is your percentage off the room rate

The name of the offer is also the formula: whatever age the birthday guest turns, that is the percentage taken off the room rate. Forty-five means 45% off. Seventy means 70% off. Simple enough, but four points need to be clear from the start so the budget is not miscalculated:

The room rate only. Set menus, extra food and drinks are charged in full; the percentage does not touch them.
The percentage equals the age of the birthday guest, not the age of whoever books the room or of any other guest.
It does not stack with the 30% off the room rate between 12pm and 10pm, Sunday to Thursday. You take one of the two, whichever is worth more.
It is applied before the 5% service charge and 10% VAT, following the formula: Total = (discounted room rate + set menu + drinks) × 1.155.

Some finer conditions — whether proof of date of birth is required, whether the offer applies on the exact day or across the birthday week, whether it applies on public holidays — should be confirmed directly when booking, since these are operational details that can change.

The real figures: how much comes off, by age and by room

Because the discount is a percentage of the room rate, the actual amount depends on two things: the birthday guest's age and the hourly rate of the room chosen, assuming a standard four-hour booking. The table below shows the amount taken off the room rate, before the 5% service charge and 10% VAT:

(Infinity, at 750,000đ/h, shares its column with Nebula.) Two patterns are visible at once: in the same room, the older the guest the more comes off, exactly in proportion; and at the same age, a room with a higher hourly rate gives a larger absolute discount. A forty-fifth birthday in Eva (room 301, 12 guests, 40 m²) takes 630,000đ off the room rate, while the same forty-fifth in Nocturne (room 701, 12 guests, 45 m²), at a higher rate, takes off 720,000đ.

Why this offer runs against the whole industry

Almost every karaoke promotion on the market aims at the young: student group rates, happy hours for the under-25s, discounts for checking in. Avatar's birthday offer does the exact opposite — the older you are, the bigger the discount. A guest of 22 gets 22% off the room rate, not enough to change where they book. A guest of 55 gets 55% off, which is a substantial amount.

The practical effect is that the offer filters for exactly the guests Avatar wants to serve: people in middle age marking their own birthdays, families celebrating a parent or grandparent, and companies marking a senior colleague's birthday properly. That is rare in a promotion: genuinely generous in money, yet without pulling the venue towards the cheap, noisy positioning of the youth market. If your company is considering a birthday package for a director or a department, this is the part worth putting in the approval request, because the saving rises with the seniority of the person being celebrated.

The break-even point sits exactly at 30

Since the two offers do not stack, comparing them side by side makes the choice obvious. Take Celestial (room 2A3, 20 guests, 55 m²) at 500,000đ/h, booked for four hours, so the room rate before discount is 2,000,000đ:

The rule is short: under 30, the 30% time-slot offer always wins — book between 12pm and 10pm, Sunday to Thursday. At exactly 30 the two are equal, so choose by whichever day suits the group. Over 30 the birthday offer always wins, and the gap widens with age — at 60 the difference is already 600,000đ on the room rate alone. To repeat, so there is no confusion when booking: these are two separate offers and both cannot go on the same bill.

The honest figure: 6–12% of the total bill

"60% off" sounds like a very large number, but because it applies only to the room rate — one part of a bill that also carries the set menu and drinks, neither discounted — the real saving on the total usually lands between 6% and 12%. That is nothing to hide. For guests at this level, the percentage should be understood for what it is: a way of marking the age of the person celebrating, not a bargaining tool to pull people through the door.

To show it clearly, here is an example away from the round ages in the table above: a family books Nocturne (701, 12 guests, 45 m², 400,000đ/h) for a thirty-eighth birthday, four hours, with one standard set menu at 6,500,000đ and 500,000đ of additional drinks. Step by step:

Room rate before discount: 400,000đ × 4 hours = 1,600,000đ.
Less 38% (the age exactly): 1,600,000đ × (1 − 0.38) = 1,600,000đ × 0.62 = 992,000đ.
Add the set menu and drinks: 992,000đ + 6,500,000đ + 500,000đ = 7,992,000đ.
Add the 5% service charge and 10% VAT: 7,992,000đ × 1.155 = 9,230,760đ.

Without the offer the total would be (1,600,000đ + 6,500,000đ + 500,000đ) × 1.155 = 9,933,000đ. So the real saving is 702,240đ, about 7.1% of the total bill — within the 6–12% range above, rather than the 38% the headline percentage might suggest.

The offer rewards a longer booking

Because the discount is calculated on the room rate, the saving rises with the number of hours booked. A six-hour booking saves more than a four-hour one, in exact proportion, with no cap eating into the difference. That is a fair reason for a family weighing four hours against six to consider the longer slot, particularly when there are performances, speeches or a cake to fit in. It is also why the offer is sustainable for both sides: guests stay longer, and the venue serves a full evening rather than a short slot followed by a handover.

What to do before you call

Establish the exact age the birthday guest is turning — that single number decides the whole percentage.
Choose the room for the real head count, not an estimate, then look up its hourly rate in the table above.
Compare quickly: if the birthday guest is under 30 and you can book between 12pm and 10pm, Sunday to Thursday, ask about the 30% time-slot offer before settling on the birthday one.
